15 Dec Tecmo Bo Jackson Player of the Game – Week 14
In the early 90’s, there was a game that captured the hearts and minds of football fans…Tecmo Super Bowl. Real players, stats, and simple controls. It was mind-blowing. In the game, there was one player who ruled them all, and that player was Bo Jackson (sorry QB Eagles). He was unstoppable, zig-zagging his way up and down the field to another touchdown with utter ease. So in honor of the immortal Tecmo Bo Jackson, Green + Gold Life will be honoring a player every week who dominated the game in the same way Tecmo Bo did with the Tecmo Bo Jackson Player of the Game award.
And the Tecmo Bo Jackson Player of the Game award for Week 14 goes to…
This was somewhat of a difficult decision. Do I go with the standout special teams performance of Jeff Janis gunning down the field and tackling with pure perfection? Or perhaps The Claymaker, flying all over the field and making Matt Cassell wish he would have become a professional badminton player instead of a pro quarterback? Or maybe split it between the two running backs who rushed for more yards than this team has done in recent memory? In the end, it felt the Tecmo Bo Jackson Player of the Game should go to the player who has been somewhat of an enigma this season, but busted out one of his patented performance Packer fans have come to enjoy.
With McCarthy back conducting the offensive orchestra, it was clear from the first series he was going feature the former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year all game long. And in the steady drizzle, it was clear that Lacy was up to the challenge. Spinning, breaking arm tackles, running with a clarity and a determination that, at many times this season, seemed to be missing, Ed Zone brought the ground and pound to establish that he has returned.
His run in the 4th Quarter was electric in a Lacy kinda way, bursting through the hole and carrying defenders like it was a Sunday stroll. It was Tecmo Bo mixed with a little Tecmo Christian Okoye. If you want to see it again, check it out again, and then again, and perhaps one more time.
That run was capped off on the next play with a trip to the Ed Zone, giving the man from Alabama 124 yards on 24 carries.
For the Packers to make a deep run in January, the Packers are going to need this Lacy, a Tecmo Bo Jackson Player of the Game Award winner for Week 14 Lacy, to perform like this.
